Jimi Hendrix has been David Rotter's biggest musical influence since childhood. David has probably played at least one song by Jimi on guitar or piano every day since he was 12, inspired by the soulfulness, creativity, spirituality, intensity and freedom of Jimi's music. In the 1980s, David started a Hendrix tribute band called Purple Blaze, which played the Los Angeles area for many years. Performances were often last-minute and little-rehearsed – usually thrown together to provide an opening act for David's main band, Black Patti. Personnel for Purple Blaze always consisted of David on guitar and lead vocals, and his amazingly gifted twin brother Danny on drums.
